A useful answer starts with a useful description of the deck:
- Deck type and profile — B-deck, N-deck, composite floor deck, plate, grating
- Gauge, and the finish: bare, galvanized, painted, previously coated
- Roof deck, floor deck, mezzanine, catwalk, or platform
- Interior, covered, or full weather exposure — and whether it is coastal
- Current condition, including corrosion at laps, flutes, and fasteners
- What walks, rolls, or sits on it
- Square footage and access — is there a working platform, or is this rope and lift work
